Changes to Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI)

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, December 06, 2011

One of the best reasons to use a business insurance broker is because an insurance broker can find great rates for you. The Hartford has made changes to EPLI and TriState Business Insurance wants to bring those to you.

With the number of EPLI claims continuing to rise, small businesses need to make sure they have the right amount of insurance coverage in place to protect them from this real and emerging risk. By decreasing the number of underwriting questions required to purchase increased limits and reducing the minimum premiums for increased limits, it is easier than ever to get the insurance coverage you need.

While, in most states, The Hartford's Spectrum Business Owner's Policy automatically includes $10,000 of EPLI coverage at no additional cost, it may not be enough. Consider...

  • Costs of defending an allegation can add up quickly
  • There is a 58% probability for a plaintiff verdict in employment liability claims¹
  • In 2009, the average settlement award was $363,748¹ (The median settlement award was $95,000¹)

There is no doubt about it -- liability associated with poor employment practices can be costly.

Beginning in December, TriState Business Insurance can bring you the coverage you need. Here's how...

  • Improved competitive positioning on increased limits - offering you the best value for their insurance dollar

*Minimum premiums may vary due to state requirements

  • Introduction of a $1M limit - offering maximum protection.

Consider increased EPLI limits. We can help protect you by offering solutions that help proactively minimize risks to your business. Contact TriState Business Insurance about EPLI.

Business Insurance Brokers Have Competitive Rates and Multiple Options

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 23, 2011

There are quite a few commercials and marketing campaigns out there that ask consumers to buy direct from the insurance company. If you can do that, then why buy your commercial insurance from an insurance broker?

A business insurance broker is considered the liaison between you, the client, and the insurance company. This makes the broker unique; the broker works for no one insurance company. A business insurance broker works with numerous insurance companies, offering a competitive advantage to small businesses.

A business insurance broker has one task, to match up your business with the right insurance company and plan. Not the only plan, an insurance broker has many companies and plans to choose from.  A business insurance broker offers competitive rates to business, and we eliminate the need for businesses to use their time requesting multiple quotes.

For information on and examples of the competitive advantage TriState Business Insurance can offer you, contact us.

Home Based Businesses Need Business Insurance

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, November 09, 2011

There are many business owners in the Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland areas that work from home. From consultants to caterers, home based businesses are not only imperative to household disposable income, but to the nation’s economy.

Homeowners insurance will not cover any loss of office equipment, and it will not provide public liability. If you work from home, you may need a specialist insurance policy. In fact, your standard household insurance may even be invalid if you work from home.

Even if it is small scale business you should not hesitate in getting it properly insured. Business insurance can save you from unwanted and unexpected hazards.

Every business, even those that are online, can be safeguarded through insurance. Contact TriState Business Insurance to see what coverage will best suit  your home based business.

Irene Caused Less Damage than Expected, But Uninsured Damage is Big

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, September 01, 2011

The hurricane has passed; overall, damage was not as bad as expected. While many business owners dodged a bullet, others were not so lucky. Insured damage from Irene will range between $2 billion and $3 billion, and the total losses will likely be about $7 billion, according to preliminary estimates by Kinetic Analysis Corp. a consulting firm.

Both figures are less than had been feared, a bit of reassuring news for a fragile economy. However that is $4-5 million in uninsured loss; so the news isn’t that reassuring to the businesses who have to figure out how to cover that loss.

Also, the long-term costs of Irene will likely grow as storm-ravaged areas deal with lost business, insurance claims, dislocated workers and transportation disruptions. These costs will take months to fully calculate.

The preliminary estimate from Kinetic Analysis, based in Maryland, suggests that Irene will have caused far less insured damage than the $6 billion the industry paid out after Hurricane Isabel struck the East Coast in 2003.
