Insurance companies are advising drivers to be mindful of auto theft this holiday season and on New Year's Day in particular. A recent report by the National Information Crime Bureau (NICB) found that holiday auto theft increased by 2.5% from 2011 to 2012.
Thieves are always on the lookout for easy opportunities to steal a vehicle, and that includes holidays. They know roads and parking lots are bustling and people are preoccupied and celebrating with family and friends. Additionally, they know there is an increase in idling food delivery cars in driveways.
NICB recommends that drivers take the following special precautions during the busy holiday shopping season:
